The Dustin Redd Playground
Located on the west side of City Park, this playground was built in 1996 to replace a simple playground that stood there. The building of the Dustin Redd Playground was a community effort bringing people from all sides of City Park together to help build it. In 1997, five year old Dustin Redd drowned in City Park’s Ferril Lake while attending a day camp. The playground is named in his memory. The 2018 City Park Masterplan identifies the Dustin Redd Playground as Priority 1 to be upgraded or replaced. The new play features and spaces will fit in well with the existing trees and vegetation of the meadow that sits alongside of it.
Small Playground
On the east side of City Park and just south of the Museum of Nature and Science is a smaller playground that is perfect for toddlers. This playground was built in 1992, replacing a simpler version. Denver Parks and Recreation and the Museum are planning to build a Nature Play in this area in 2022. The effort has included ideas from the community, and the design for it is underway.
